Vintage German Bronze Sculpture Bacchante Dancing Female Signed Lina Muller 1930
DESCRIPTION
Vintage 1930s bronze sculpture of a dancing Bacchante. Designed and signed on the base by Lina Muller in the 1930s this stunning bronze sculpture epitomizes the freedom of a back to nature attitude in Germany in between the wars. Her nonchalant frolicking movement represents the unrestricted freedom of the Bacchantes who were referred to as drunken revelers. In Greek and Roman mythology, Bacchantes were so wild and uncontrollable they were feared for their unrestrained craziness. She dances naked clutching a breast with one hand and holding a tambourine outwards in the other.
This bronze piece is signed by the artist and also has its original foundry pastille. It is mounted on an English Wedgewood bisque pottery blue plinth. Unusual, but the juxtaposition of the heavy bronze on a pottery base works well.
Bronze marked: Lina Muller Foundry pastille
Plinth marked: Wedgewood Made in England
Great aesthetic form with accurate anatomical movement make this an appealing sculpture. A great addition to your classic sculpture or art bronze collection.
MEASUREMENTS
Mounted bronze sculpture measures 12" wide by 8" deep by 24" tall and weighs 15lbs 13oz ( plinth is 6" by 6" by 6").
CONDITION
In good used condition with signs of use commensurate with age (please see all pictures as they form part of the condition description).
