Vintage Sterling Silver Clad Shell Open Salt Cellars
Late 20th century set of six salt cellars or dips. Each one is silver clad and styled as a snail shell situated atop a sterling pedestal. Each piece is marked ''925'' for sterling silver. The bowl is silver clad with a continuos line of silver enveloping the side culminating to a highly stylized point which almost gives them the appearance of birds. Highly polished in an unusual form these salt cellars would grace any table with a touch of panache. Not only are they aesthetically beautiful but completely functional for their design. In olden days the idea of individual salt cellars at a table intimated a persons wealth and status when salt was a coveted commodity.
A perfect addition to your vintage shabby chic home decor or a fabulous gift idea for the discerning diner.
The cellars measure 2.375" tall by 2.255" wide by 1.75" deep and weigh together 10oz.
The salt cellars are in good condition considering age and use - please see all pictures as they form part of the condition description.
