Vintage Verdigris Bronze Sculpture St George & The Dragon Signed J A Finelli 78
DESCRIPTION
Heavy bronze sculpture piece of religious art depicting St George and the dragon (alternatively St Michael and the Devil). Designed and signed on the base by J A Finelli in the 1978 this stunning bronze sculpture epitomizes the battle between good and evil in bronze. The long upright figure of St George is topped with a star of Bethlehem on his head (which signifies his connection to the divine) contrasts sharply with the writhing twisting body of the dragon underfoot. The light footed countenance of serenity of the saint further contrasts this with the ferocious facial gesticulation of the devil as he grips the world tightly.
Both characters are beautifully cast with great details from the feathers on the saints wings to the scales on the dragons back. Unfortunately I cannot find any information on the sculptor. This has two mounting holes underneath for a possible base.
Great aesthetic form with accurate anatomical movement make this an appealing sculpture. A great addition to your religious sculpture, art bronze collection or dragon themed man cave.
